Help make Mac Cancer-Free!!
Donation protected
This is hard for me to write because part of me is embarrassed to be writing it.
The TL:DR is my dog, and emotional support animal, Macaroni, has cancer. We have some good news, he is getting better, but we're not out of the woods yet. We have plunged ourselves in to debt trying to help him and we're asking for help in covering the costs we've incurred from trips to the emergency vet, monthly chemo appointments, and CT scans so that we can continue to treat him. Anything helps! Thank you so much! I've posted a cost breakdown at the bottom.
It was also brought to my attention that some people might want to use paypal instead of gofundme. If that's the case you can use !
Mac is a retired racing greyhound born in 2014. The same year I was preparing to graduate college little "RS My Oh My" was born. He wasn't a very good racer, but did win a few. He retired in 2016 and came to Maine from Florida in 2017.
I adopted Mac on September, 9th 2017. He changed my entire life. Having struggled with depression as long as I can remember, I decided that I needed to take steps towards getting better. Once I had a fairly stable job, and apartment, I made the trip up to Augusta (shout out to Maine Greyhound Placement Services!) to adopt the sweetest little boy.
Mac is, and has been my reason to get up in the morning. His cold, wet, nose poking me and prodding me to get up made me realize that I couldn't just lie in bed all day any more. I had a furchild to take care of.
I started to lead a more active lifestyle, and because of that the symptoms of my depression started to ease. I no longer wanted to end my life because I felt like I had a very good, and important reason to keep living. And that reason was Mac.
We first noticed something was wrong when Mac's front legs gave out and stopped working after a fairly routine walk. He kept trying to walk and falling flat on his face, unable to move his legs to get himself back up.
At the emergency vet we were told that there was some "fuzziness" around his spine in his neck on the x-ray. We were told it could be a disc issue, and he would require a lot of physical therapy. We opted for a CT scan to get a better idea of what was going on. Unfortunately the radiologist and surgeon on call determined that the "mass" was mostly likely cancerous. Luckily Mac responded well to prednisone and was able to walk again. The cost of the emergency vet plus medications was around $3,300.
Based off of our oncologist's recommendation we have been treating Mac with chemotherapy for a couple of months. He was handling it just fine and seemed unfazed! On December 13th we took Mac in for a CT scan to see if the chemo has been helping. Luckily the results of the CT scan today were extremely positive! The mass has almost completely disappeared! We are overjoyed!
However, we still need to give Mac a few more chemo sessions to make sure we can get rid of as much of the cancer as possible. Then we will need to monitor him for the rest of his life and treat the cancer when it likely comes back in the future.
So, here is where we are. In order to give Mac the best life that we can, we need to pay our bills. If you can donate anything to help us reach our goal we would be eternally grateful to you.
I know it's a tough time of year and money is tight for everyone, but this would mean so much to me if you could at least share. Thank you, and please hug your pets and hold them close.
Love,
Sabrina & Marvin & Macaroni
