Hey, my name is Liv and this weekend, I welcomed a kitten into my home after adopting him through a rescue centre. I was told he had been fully vet-checked, vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, and was in perfect health, ready for his new start.

But the moment he arrived, I knew something wasn’t right.

He was smothered in faeces, weak, and clearly distressed. I was told it was “just from travelling,” but over the next day it became heartbreakingly clear this kitten was already very ill. I’ve since found out he had been suffering from extreme diarrhoea days before being handed over to me, something I was never told.

Since then, I’ve barely slept. I’ve spent hours cleaning, comforting, and caring for this tiny boy, watching his condition worsen. Despite the hard work, I’ve loved every second of caring for him but I also feel completely heartbroken for him… and honestly, a bit let down by those who were meant to protect him.

Today, I rushed him to my vet. He is now being kept in on IV fluids because he is so dehydrated, weak, and underweight. The vet has confirmed that there is 100% an underlying issue and he needs urgent diagnostics and care.

To make matters even more devastating, I’ve now been contacted by another person who adopted this kitten’s brother. Sadly, her kitten has already passed away after suffering from the same symptoms: extreme diarrhoea, rapid decline, and what has been described as an infection leading to hypoxia (lack of oxygen) to the brain. There is clearly something serious affecting this litter, and this little one needs urgent help before it’s too late.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have a chance to get insurance in place before all of this happened, and I’ve already paid almost £300 just today. The rescue centre have told me they don’t currently have funds to help, despite the contract stating they’d provide support for the first 7 days.

So now I’m reaching out to cat lovers, animal supporters, and kind souls for help even if it’s a small amount.

He is such a dear little thing and deserves to enjoy a life of love. Thank you for reading xx
