Help Save Lombok

Aug 5th, Lombok Earthquake 2018 relief effort

As many of you have heard, Lombok was hit with a powerful 7.0 magnitude earthquake. We are living with the reality of landslides, two hundred injured, a hundred aftershocks, ninety-eight deaths, and counting!

Now we face a tsunami warning.

Our homes are cracked and brittle forcing us to sleep outside in fear of what an aftershock can do, our roads are torn up and block valuable government aid and we have little to no access to medical supplies, hospitals, shelters and clean water. While the Indonesian government is doing its best to evacuate tourists into the Gili islands, locals into other parts of Indonesia and support main areas of concern, many villages in the north of Lombok are and will go without food, water, shelter, and electricity, for a long period of time.

Road damage stopping emergency vehicles and supplies from reaching people in need.

Let us break it down for you, Here is the cost of OUR basic survival:

The cost of a box of a 500ml water bottles, 18,000 IDR/1.25USD

The cost of 100 warm blankets, 40,000 IDR/2.77USD

The cost of 100mg baby formula, 64,000 IDR for a box of 100/4.43USD

The cost of a box of pampers, 45,000 IDR/3.12USD

The cost of 1 box of sanitary napkins, 23,000 IDR/1.59USD

The cost of 1kg of rice, 10,000 IDR/0.69 CENTS USD

*The cost of 1L of gas, 7,200 IDR/0.50 CENTS USD

We are constantly on the lookout for any medical professionals who want to donate their time to help.

(* There currently are no gas stations running within the north of Lombok and the government has shut down all stations close by to prevent accidental explosions. This means we must travel further south or east to receive gas for our trucks and motorbikes.)

A moments rest thanks to donations from our friends abroad.

What your donations will do:

Through the support of our friends all across the world and the help of John Meacham, we receive your donations in USD then John will *convert the donations into IDR (Indonesian rupiah). Once the donations are converted and hit the ground, we will go to work and make the long journey back into the north. This trip can sometimes exceed 6 hours of driving, walking, and motorbike, one way. Not to mention we stop when we see people in need along the way.

We won't lie, Gofundme and bank exchange rates are not charities and require a small 3% fee, but your donation will go directly to the relief and be used on what is really important.

(*GoFundMe doesn't support the IDR currency so we had to take the step of converting USD into IDR.)

Did you know?

Statistics show the risk of an epidemic disease can rise significantly after each natural disaster. That includes landslides, tsunamis, aftershocks, and earthquakes. To put it simply, due to the change in atmosphere, displaced citizens, damaged and contaminated water lines, unsanitary conditions and pathogens in the air, infectious disease can spread easily and quickly. A simple donation of $5 USD can supply one family with blankets, rice, and clean bottled water for a few days. Baby formula can help keep babies and young children strong so their bodies can fend off harmful diseases. Clean water can minimize harmful bacteria from spreading while cooking, cleaning and consuming. Sanitary napkins and basic medical supplies can help prevent the spread of blood-borne viruses.

Imagine that, something as simple as bottled water and sanitary napkins can help prevent more damage and the spread of disease.

Post-earthquake reality. These two men didn't make it out to see their families again.

Who is behind the screen?

My name is Levi and I'm from a small village in Lombok that was destroyed in the earthquake. Whilst visiting my family the unthinkable happened, our tiny village was destroyed in the early morning of Aug 5th. Since then I have seen first hand the true horrors a disaster can do but my family and I were lucky this time. I decided to stay behind and become an activist along with several others from surrounding villages. We are constantly making the hard trip into more populated parts of Lombok in search of medical aid and supplies but we can't do it on our own. There are simply too many smaller villages that need help. With your help, we can make a difference and lower the statistics of this earthquake. We can bring water, blankets, rice and basic medical aid to our villages.

Me, on site.

Where are we?

Our base camp is located in Puyung Village. Here we can receive our supplies and allocate them to different villages who desperately need help. If you are more hands-on type then a sponsor, see our contact section at the bottom of the page.

Final thought:

Let me ask you this if you received a text message, email or phone call from someone you know, in the community you helped build, in the country you love, Would you not help? This is my life every day since August 5th. My phone (when a signal is available) is constantly being blown up by digital cries for help. I can't turn a blind eye to their plea, can you?

Please join us and help your fellow man. Even the smallest donation can help.

Thank you, from the villages in the north of Lombok.
