Help Lola Recover From Amputation After Hit-and-Run
Donation protected
Hi friends, family, and extended animal-loving community-
On Monday, 3/24/24, were on our nightly neighborhood stroll with Lola, our 11-year-old rescue dog, when she was hit by a car driven by someone in our neighborhood who was driving erratically. Colton and I were not hit, but it was a close call for Colton, who had ahold of Lola’s harness. The person did not bother to stop. I contacted the police and sent photos. Our neighborhood jumped in to help in various ways, and Katee and Carol (High Desert Honey) even gave us a frantic ride home to our car so we could drive to Mosaic Emergency Vet in Santa Fe. We are so grateful for the help.
Our girl had to stay overnight at the emergency vet, and today (3/25), we will transfer her to Gruda Vet Hospital for surgery with high hopes of saving her leg. I just got off the phone with the ICU vet, and she’s stable but in lots of pain. She is currently on morphine, and they are doing their best to keep her comfortable. Luckily, she does not have any signs of internal bleeding. Lola has a broken leg right above the knee joint. According to the vet, this can be a tricky situation when thinking about repairing, as the best option would be a plate and screws, but the location of the injury might not make this possible. We are hoping for the best, and we trust her doctors. She’s no stranger to this clinic, as she had knee surgery there back in 2020, in a time when we had the ability to cover things like this without asking for help.
This time, we need to ask for help. While Colton contributes in every way he can to keep our costs down while he is in graduate school at UNM, he isn’t currently working, so we are primarily living off my income as a youth therapist. We have a little extra sometimes to put back for emergencies (car expenses, medical things, etc.) or to road trip with, but that has dwindled pretty quickly after a recent incident where Lola went to the emergency vet last month for a gastrointestinal infection. I don’t like to ask for help, but we need some help right now.
I adopted Lola when I was 23. She was on a list of puppies who were set to be euthanized at the shelter. I went to pick her up immediately. She was a precious, calm pup and still is. Everyone who knows her adores her. I’m certain she was sent to me by some higher power. She’s been with me through many life stages, learnings, and transitions. She was 4 years old when I met Colton, and he’s loved her like his own ever since (perhaps more than he loves me at times…just kidding). Lola is an adventure dog with a kind, gentle presence, and she’s my best friend.
Please help by donating or sharing if you can.
So far the Emergency Vet and ICU care totaled to $2,266.83
We were quoted an additional: $5000-$5,500 for her surgery. We will have a definitive number after her surgery on 3/26.
Any addition funds will go toward the fees associated with using the Go Fund Me platform and follow up care at her primary vet’s office- Taos Vet. This platform does take a percentage for their operating costs.
If you want to minimize the fees taken out through this platform, please feel free to Venmo as there are no fees associated with “gifts” on Venmo: @hopemoore is my account. There is a photo of Lola & me along the Rio Grande looking into Mexico from Texas as the photo associated with my account.
Information about fees on this platform:“The transaction fee (2.9%+$0.30 USD per donation) covers the cost of credit and debit charges, safely delivering donations, and helps us offer new ways to donate.”
