Dear fencing friends,
We’re writing to you as former students of LionHeart Academy. While it has been a long time since we’ve fenced at LionHeart, we are compelled to support the fencing club that we still call home and we strongly urge you to join us.
Since its creation in 1993, LionHeart Academy has been dedicated to supporting fencers of all ages and abilities. Lionheart has provided a space for hundreds of students to participate in safe, fun, and competitive programs, leading to successful and confident individuals, and in some cases: nationally ranked athletes and accomplished coaches! The club has taken an active role in the local community by providing a wheelchair program for injured soldiers at Balboa Hospital, creating a PE program for home-schooled students and pioneering middle and high school leagues in San Diego.
It goes without saying that local businesses are the heart and soul of our community, and Coach Lee is one of its most passionate, respectful, and dedicated members. His integrity is backed up by his professionalism as UCSD’s former NCAA head coach and twelve-years as adjunct professor at Grossmont College. He is one of the architects and founders of today’s San Diego Youth Cup.
In December and January, just a few months prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, LionHeart invested over $10K into renovating and improving the office and lobby, bathrooms, and repainting the entire interior in anticipation of a robust summer camp season. With the onset of the pandemic, Coach Lee followed guidelines that have severely restricted business through the last six months, including the loss of the Summer Camp season.
Last month, LionHeart carefully opened, but revenue has not been the same and the club is still struggling. For this reason, much of LionHeart’s financial reserves are low and the club is not able to cover base expenses.
If LionHeart has had a positive impact on your life like it has for me, I ask you to join me in supporting our club, a monumental aspect of our community.
All of the funds collected will go directly to LionHeart for covering base expenses such as rent.
Thank you for your support! Please reach out with any questions and share your LionHeart stories!
