On Mar 16, 2017, I saw a severely matted dog crossing the street in my neighborhood. I was sure she was a stray but she actually had a family that lived down the street from me. I knocked on the door of the house she was sitting in front of and they said she was their dog. I offered to pay for the dog Lexi's grooming and the family agreed to let me help. But before Lexi can even see a groomer, i had to get her current on all her vaccines, which she had none of. Then we had to wait 2 days for the vaccines to kick in before she was finally able to be groomed. I learned more about Lexi when i dropped her off at her house. The family had a nice back yard, but they didn't let her back there. They just let her stay in the front with no doghouse or shelter to protect her from the elements, not even a fence to protect this little 10 pound dog from other dogs or coyotes. She just had a hole that she dug up in the dirt to lay in. The carrier i had used to tranport her to the vet was so comfy compared to what she had, she didn't want to get out. So I gave them the carrier so she could have a den of some sort. It broke my heart to leave her there. This poor dog has lived a life full of neglect. When i brought her to Upland Pet Grooming on Mar 18, everyone was appalled by her condition . They believe Lexi had been living in that condition for at least 2 years. She was so matted that you couldn't even feel her skin underneath all that matted fur . It was like she had an armadillo shell. And she stunk so bad!! She had excrement all over her backside and you can tell she was trying to clean herself because she also had excrement all over her face as well. Within 30 minutes , I received a call from the groomer saying that Lexi had a sore on her hind leg and that there was maggots in the wound! I immediately rushed her to Imperial Highway Animal Clinic in Yorba Linda, CA. After Lexi had been groomed, you can really smell the stench of rotten flesh coming from her wound. She is now undergoing treatment to save her life. She was not going to make it if her wound had been left untreated. She is currently spending the next few days at the vet. Please help Lexi with her medical treatment. This poor girl deserves a new chance at life. I asked the family to surrender Lexi to me and I am planning to find her a new furever family that will love and care for her like she deserves. She still needs to be spayed as well. The amount of $1500 is to cover the cost of her medical treatment, grooming, vaccines, spay and microchip before she is rehomed. Thank you any help ♡
