Help Save Kyra: Currently in Critical Condition

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Lilah and I’m 17 years old and live with my grandma.

I was given a 7-week-old kitten in August of 2023 by a close friend. I named him Kyra. He has been my best friend throughout the hardest times of my life. I was depressed for 6 months, and thanks to Kyra, I felt grounded. We are each others company.

Unfortunately, the night before Thanksgiving, he became extremely lethargic, began throwing up, and was struggling to breathe. His tummy was pulsing, and I got so worried that I rushed him to the Emergency Vet.

They immediately saw by the look of him that this was a dire situation. Everyone in the room could tell he was not well and the doctors took him from me immediately. After a $1,411 deposit, all I was told was that he was unstable and most likely would need CPR. My heart shattered. They didn’t let me see him because it was too traumatic to see. After many tears and anxiety attacks, they finally told me he has water in his lungs and heart, and that his heart is enlarged as well.

After many hours of dealing with the fact that I was told he had a slim chance of survival, the doctor then said his only option is to go to the only hospital that has what he needs to save him, a critical-condition specialized hospital in New Jersey. They are urging for an AmbuVet to take him there as soon as possible, or he will pass away. The cost would be around $10,000.

Currently, he’s stabilized, waiting to be taken to the hospital, but if not taken there soon enough, he will pass.

Anything that can help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

UPDATE: I opted to rush Kyra to the Emergency Hospital in New Jersey in my boyfriend’s car once the initial Vet was able to get Kyra stable enough for the long drive. The entire drive had to be on max heat to keep him at the temperature his body needs. Kyra was panting and could not breathe due to the fluids in his lungs worsening. The ride was traumatic and only got worse by the minute as he began to projectile vomit spit and blood.

We made it to the Hospital and he was admitted immediately due to his condition. We had no choice but to leave him overnight if we wanted him to survive. 24 hour care would cost about $8,000 and 12 hour care would cost us $4,000. We had already spent all we had ($1,500) on his initial medicine and stabilization, so we opted for 12 hours. A $4,000 loan we were approved for regarding Emergency Veterinary Care that would have to be paid off in a few months. Kyra spent the night on oxygen in the ICU.

We came back the following morning worried that euthanasia would be the only option. Fortunately, the vets said they no longer believe he’s suffering to that point anymore as he improved greatly. However, they recommended another night due to how much he got better knee his care, but they estimated another $3,800, which we couldn’t do as the loan was already maxed out from the first night. They said due to his improvement under his care, with medicine and close attention, he could be okay.

Kyra is out of the hospital, diagnosed with heart disease and was confirmed to have fluids in his lungs. Could possibly have respiratory issues.

We are all anxiously counting his breaths and hoping he’s okay, we’re currently in $6,000 debt and are expecting to spend more once he needs his following visit in two weeks.

Kyra’s care at home is now much more expensive due to how sensitive his body is and how special his needs are.

Kyra may need life long medication taken multiple times daily to be okay, which is super expensive.

Please help my grandmother and I in anyway you can.

I would really appreciate if you could please share this link

Thank you again.
