Pictured: Kiko, before the incidentOn the afternoon of December 31,2020, my dog Kiko and I went for a stroll along the Bay Trail like we do every day. It is Kiko's favorite time of the day because he is able to get all his energy out and explore. Unfortunately, half-way through our walk a large dog who was passing became very aggressive, lunged at him and the dog escaped from her owner.
Kiko was viciously attacked by the other dog.
We rushed him to the emergency vet, but they were swamped with other cases, so he had to wait overnight for an exam. Due to the long holiday weekend, we couldn't get Kiko in to see our vet. At the time we were grateful that he seemed to be doing ok. However, the injuries were much more serious than initially perceived.
He wouldn't eat and we had to dropper feed him water and baby food so he could take his antibiotics. He was bitten with so much force that the fluid from the wounds began to escape causing his skin to rip open. Last Tuesday because he was in so much pain and his wounds were only worsening we had made the difficult decision to put him down. Our vet who also loves Kiko encouraged us not to give up and helped us find a surgeon. Because Kiko is only 4 years old the surgeon encouraged us to do major wound cleaning and skin removal surgery.
Kiko post surgerySince the major surgery Kiko is starting to get back on track. He has to go into the vet twice a week to get a lengthy surgical procedure to change his bandages. Costs are quickly adding up and any help we could get would be greatly appreciated.
*Everyone that knows Kiko loves him! He is one of the sweetest, most friendly dogs around. Many children in the neighborhood have come up to pet him, give him love and big hugs. Kiko sits there patiently wagging his nub, taking the hugs and giving as many kisses as possible back. He also loves to play ball in the yard and squeak his toys.*
Kiko is one of the greatest gifts I have ever received and is very important to our family. I humbly ask for your support in Kiko’s care. The vet bills are mounting and every dollar is very much appreciated! No donation is too small.
Thank you so much. If anyone has questions please feel free to send me a personal message! *We also have photos of Kiko before surgery if you would like to see, but they are very graphic so we have decided not to add the photos on this page*
