Help Save Katie's Best Friend Murphy
Donation protected
Dear friends,
We are hoping to raise money to keep the best friend of one of my best friends alive. First of all, Katie is okay. (At least physically.) This fundraiser is to save her dog Murphy.
If you have met Katie even just once, you already know she is one of the most remarkable people. Not just because she is an Emmy winning journalist and psycho bungee-jumper who summits volcanos. If you know Katie, you know these are the least interesting things about her.
What makes Katie one of the best people we’ve all ever known is her giant, bursting-at-the-seams, heart and how willing she is to drop everything to help someone in need. First it was caring for her mother during a difficult battle with dementia. Not long after her mom passed, Katie’s dad suffered a heart attack. Most recently, she lost her stepmom and has been traveling back and forth to Washington to help her dad and family through the process of debilitating loss, something she’s sadly come to know all too well.
Through it all, Katie has had one constant in her life—a dog she often credits with saving her life. And if you have met Murphy even just once, you already know he isn’t just a dog. He is the Katie of dogs. He is that remarkable.
Sadly, Murphy was just diagnosed with a massive tumor behind his right eye. The vets believe it may be cancerous and reccommend complete removal of his eye. The good news is this could save his life and give him many more years with Katie. The bad news is the procedures he needs are shockingly costly and the vet bills for diagnosis and preliminary treatment have already started stacking up. Because Katie is in between jobs right now (see that whole dropping everything to take care of everyone else paragraph above) she doesn’t exactly have access to the nearly $10k it’s going to cost to treat Merf. But I knew if we threw together this little fundraiser, and everyone whose lives Katie and Murphy have touched pitched in, we could earn enough to help this incredible duo.
You know that saying, “We don’t deserve dogs?” Well, it’s true. We don’t. But Katie does. And she deserves to have this one as long as he can be kept alive. Dogs may be too good for this world, but so is Katie.
I know times are tough for many of us right now and it may seem silly to start an internet fundraiser for your friend’s fluffy pup. But if you have met Katie and Murphy—even just once—there’s no doubt in my mind you haven’t even made it this far into my plea. You’ve already got your credit card in your hand.
