Hello I’m Montianna Thompson currently in Puerto Rico, and I’m creating this go fund me for my cat Kai: unknown illness. To make this story short: 6 months ago Kai became sick with a cough and wheeze, but until it got worse recently & I took him into his primary vet. Initial thought by myself and the vet was he potentially adopted asthma because we had moved to Puerto Rico and the climate is known to cause the symptoms he was experiencing. After some X-rays, the vet explained Kai has fluid building up inside of his chest cavity which is causing him to have breathing problems because his lungs can’t properly expand inside of the cavity. Immediately drove to the hospital where he spent 2 days going through several procedures and testing. Long story short, his breathing is being effected by this is being caused by a lymphocytic effusion - meaning a block or rupture in his lymphocytes, which is causing chylothorax. The fluid is continually filling up. Twice the hospital removed 200ML of fluid from his chest, it came back positive for cancer cells but until he has a CT scan, the surgeon won’t know what kind of surgery he will need & if there are any potential lumps or cancer tumors.

I’m at a point where I’m completely lost and for the first time asking for help. The total cost for the procedure to clear his lungs & conducted a CT scan to determine which surgery he will need is approximately 3000$. This is not including how much the surgery will be when needed. While he was in the hospital the cost amounted to 2000$ & additional costs with each xray - ultrasound conducted.

to give more of an introduction to myself and Kai. Kai has been with me for 6.5 years and he’s been my absolute best friend. He’s a Hawaiian cat by blood but very much cultured with all the traveling he’s done with me over the past few years. I got Kai during a time in my life where my world was falling apart. the only reason I could even get out of bed some days was because even if I couldn’t take care of myself, I had to take care of him because he deserves nothing less. In return he helped me take care of myself. As much anxiety as he may have, he’s never hesitated to be my emotional support whenever I have my moments of weakness emotionally and mentally. The amount of love Kai has shown me over the past few years have saved me on so many occasions because our connection is something I’ve never experienced before. I didn’t even like cats when I got him, on a crazy random adventure I ended up with a cat and now my coworkers call me a crazy cat lady because I’m so in love with my big boy. I wish I could upload videos to show more of our relationship and how truly soul connected we are. He’s my best friend, my snuggle bug, my absolute world and I’m requesting any help at all. It dosent matter how small, absolutely anything will help during this process. Any donations will be specifically spent towards this CT scan procedure and future surgery that’s pending on the type.
