Hello! My name is Kase. I am an Italian Greyhound. I was born on 2/8/21. I am one of 5 in the liter. Unfortunately, the only one that is unable to latch onto my mom for feeding. My birth weight was 5 ounces but within a couple days I lost down to 4.4. My human mom knew something was wrong with me within the first hours. She raced me to the vet. However, after several visits I still had no concrete diagnosis. She was syringe feeding me ever 2-3 hours to keep me alive. She was diligent and kept seeking different opinions. At 2 1/2 weeks, I was diagnosed with a "soft cleft palate." This means I have a hole in the back portion of the roof of my mouth. It didn't form correctly before I was born. This hole allows any fluid in my mouth to go into my nasal cavity. It is very easy for me to aspirate and die. Most puppies do not survive this long if not corrected immediately. Not me !! I AM A FIGHTER!! I am going to survive this.
My human mom is now tube feeding me every 2-3 hours around the clock This tube goes directly into my stomach so it avoids the hole in my mouth. Therefore, I cannot aspirate as easily. There is still a risk if she puts it down the wrong tube in my throat. She is very careful though. I am now 3 1/2 weeks old and weight 8.7 ounces, have opened my eyes, and doing better. I love to cuddle in my blanket, snuggle with both of my mom's and sleep. When I get bigger and stronger I have to have surgery to close the hole. The vet feels optimistic about my prognosis. (I think she can tell that I am a fighter too) My human mom has got the estimate and is just waiting on me to grow big and strong. I am returning to the vet in 3 more weeks to evaluate my condition and see if I am eligible for surgery at that point. I know this surgery and all the vet visits are going to create a financial hardship on my human parents. However, I also know my humans love me very much. They have committed themselves to round the clock care.
Can you help me?? Please pray for me....that I continue to gain weight and grow and that my surgery is successful. I also am asking that you help my human parents with the financial expense. Any amount truly does help!! Lastly, please share this post with your friends and family.
I CANNOT wait to grow up so I can run and play like all my siblings.
Thank you VERY much for reading my post. I AM SOOOO grateful for any help, prayers that I receive. God Bless You!
