UPDATE (3/16): After 5 long days in the hospital, Junie is finally home! (Please see the adorable “graduation” photo that the wonderful staff took prior to her discharge from the hospital). Sweet girl is still very sick, and has a long road to recovery, but we're just grateful to have her home and praying to the Lord with all we have that she heals quickly ❤️ we owe her survival to God, the amazing veterinary team who saved her, and our wonderful friends and family. You gave me strength, and now it's my turn to help Junie regain hers. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
UPDATE (3/14): Rat Poison Found in Our Yard- Junie Is Improving and Still Fighting to Come Home
First, we want to thank everyone who has donated, shared, and prayed for our sweet Junie. Your support has truly carried us through this.
On Friday evening, we made a disturbing discovery. Our other dog Nala came inside with a bright turquoise pellet in her mouth, and when we went outside to investigate we found multiple rat poison tablets placed along the side of our home, in an area where our cameras unfortunately do not face. The pellets appeared fresh and recently placed, and neither our landlord nor any previous tenants have ever used rat poison on the property. Because of this, we believe someone likely has maliciously placed the poison intending to harm our dogs. We have since contacted Arlington PD and Animal Poison Control to investigate.
As soon as we told Junie’s veterinary team, they immediately began aggressively treating her for rat poisoning. Since then, Junie has shown major signs of improvement in the exact areas that were most concerning, including her blood clotting and blood cell counts — both indicators consistent with poisoning.
We truly believe God guided us (and Nala) to find the root cause, and we are so grateful that Junie is responding to treatment.
Junie is still in the hospital and needs at least one more day there before she can safely come home. Our vet bill has already reached almost $20,000, and we are still facing more expenses.
We are endlessly grateful for the love and generosity we’ve received so far. If you’re able to donate or share Junie’s story, it means more to us than we can express. Thank you for continuing to fight for her with us.
Original message (3/12):
Junie is my sweet, sassy, and snuggly best friend. She came into my life during a really hard time and brought so much light and joy. Now, at just 2 years old, she’s fighting for her life in the ER vet due to a sudden and severe illness called AHDS, which caused hemorrhaging in her digestive system. The complications have been overwhelming, and the vets are doing everything they can to stabilize her. She’s had an x-ray to find the cause of the bleeding, an ultrasound to check for obstructions, and many different medications to treat her nausea and pain. When her vitals plummeted, she needed a fresh frozen plasma treatment that truly saved her life. All of this has added up to significant costs, and she still needs several more days of intensive care.
Junie means everything to me. She’s not just a pet—she’s my comfort, my joy, and my first baby. I want to give her the chance at the next 10-12+ years that we should still have together. I dream of seeing her at my wedding and meeting my future kids. I owe it to her to fight for her recovery, just like she helped me through my toughest days.
If you’ve ever met Junie, you know how special she is. Any support you can give—whether it’s a donation or sharing our story—means the world to us. Thank you for helping me give Junie the chance at a long, happy life by my side.
