Julissa is only 23 years old, and right now she is fighting for her life. Due to her mental disability she cannot speak, but today her body is urgently crying out for help. She is suffering from anasarca (severe swelling throughout the body) caused by liver failure and kidney dysfunction.
Medical tests have revealed a life-threatening condition:
Liver crisis: Severe inflammation (grade III steatohepatitis) with liver enzymes elevated to 20 times their normal level.
Superbug infection: A case has been confirmed. MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) infection requiring specialized and expensive antibiotics to prevent fatal sepsis.
Kidney problems: Her kidneys show signs of damage due to systemic inflammation.
What started as a small health issue has developed into a severe infection that is now putting her life at serious risk. She urgently needs medical care.
Julissa is part of the Sinchi Warmi community in Ecuador, a group built on strength, resilience, and mutual support among women.
She has a mental disability, which means she cannot express in words how she feels. Instead, her pain becomes visible through distress and crying, as she cannot communicate what is happening in her body.
Before she became ill, Julissa helped at the Sinchi Warmi lodge, folding sheets and supporting with small daily tasks. She was an active and valued member of her community.
Now, she spends her days in a wheelchair, cared for by her mother, Nelly.
Julissa is now in a serious and urgent medical condition.
According to her doctors, she needs immediate hospitalization and strong intravenous antibiotics to treat the infection.
Medical tests show that her body is already under significant stress. There are signs that her liver and kidneys are being affected, which makes her situation even more critical.
There is also a risk that the infection could spread into her bloodstream if not treated quickly, which could become life-threatening.
Her mother, Nelly, is exhausted—caring for her day and night while watching her daughter suffer. She is doing everything she can, but she does not have the financial resources to cover the cost of treatment.
