Hi, our cat Indiana, a 2.5 year old ragdoll cat, has been struggling with a sudden medical issue that began this summer. He’s had to have two emergency surgeries to remove hair ball blockages. He had 2 surgeries in 3 weeks and it nearly cost him his life. He had a 30% chance of survival coming out of the second surgery (an enterectomy), but he has been fighting to make it through this. We don’t know the underlying cause, and despite regular and normal fur ball maintenance (daily brushing, pastes, fur ball treats and fur ball food), he suddenly became unable to process his own fur normally through his system. It could be due to an allergy, a genetic condition, IBD or something else. We are seeing multiple vets and specialists for advice in person and online to help save his life.

We have had to shave him and his sister to stop any excessive intake of fur and we are trying to change his diet to hypoallergenic food, to help mitigate the chance of a food allergy causing this. When he is more stable we need to do a biopsy and we need to get a deep ultrasound to look at his intestines for signs of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

We are still very much unsure if all or any of this will work and keep our Indiana alive and well but are going to keep trying everything we can. He wants to live and is fighting so hard to make it through this.

We thought we were doing all the right things for our Indiana and it’s been such a hard experience for all 4 of us. We have an insurance plan but it is now maxed and it’s not covering everything that we have spent and what we will continue to spend. So we have made this fund because we are feeling really helpless and afraid that we will run out of funds for him.

We are really grateful for any donations to help us with further treatment, tests, cardigans to keep him warm, toys to cheer him up, and help with the cost of the new hypoallergenic food.
