Help save Indian farmer’s land from bank auction

I am setting up this Go Fund Me on behalf of a gentleman, Vivek Mishra, a struggling farmer in Uttar Pradash, India. 

Vivek’s farmland is due to be auctioned by the Bank of Baroda as he has been unable to pay off his debt due to crop failure. He has a large family to support, including a young 6 year old boy. I recently came into contact with him and sent him some money to help keep him afloat until we figured out a plan. 



This Go Fund Me is our last resort as Vivek urgently requires the token money demanded by the bank in order to prevent his farmland from being auctioned. The bank has asked for ~£580 to be deposited by the end of this week to halt the land going to auction. This £580 is a token amount and will be deducted from the total bank loan amount of ~£3000. 

We are hoping to raise as much as possible of the total debt amount of £3000 as we cannot predict how much nor when the bank will demand payment next. Any contribution, no matter how small, will really help Vivek who currently works as a laborer and has an income of about £3.50 a day.

Last year, over 10,000 farmers in India took their own lives and this number is estimated to be much higher this year due to the pandemic. Vivek, himself, has sadly expressed such intentions, due to the immense financial stress he is under. I am in regular contact with him and have been working with him to think of alternatives.

He currently only is asking for help in raising this token money just so he can keep his land and what is in essence his livelihood. We rely on farmers everyday and I think owe them much more than we currently give. Vivek only asks for this amount to help him stay afloat until the next season.
