My name is Maria Codrington, and I am raising funds for my brother, Ian Callanta, who is only 50 years old and urgently needs a life-saving heart procedure in the Philippines.
About a month ago, Ian was rushed to the emergency room after suffering a heart attack and was admitted to the ICU for close monitoring. During his hospitalization, doctors recommended that he undergo an angiogram and angioplasty as soon as possible. At first, part of his care was covered through his wife’s insurance, but once that support ran out, our family could no longer afford to continue treatment right away.
Ian was then transferred to a lower-cost hospital where families with limited means can sometimes receive treatment for free or at a major discount. But the wait for his procedure is currently being projected for May or June, possibly even later. That delay is simply too dangerous. He had been home for less than a week when his wife, Joy Callanta, had to rush him back to the hospital because he was again experiencing chest pain and shortness of breath.
Ian has lived with asthma since infancy and has also struggled with diabetes for years without consistent access to medical care and medication. His body is now showing us that it cannot keep waiting.
There is a more immediate option: a private hospital, Polymedic Hospital, may be able to perform the angiogram and angioplasty much sooner, but only if we can pay the full cost. Based on an estimate shared with our family, the procedure and related care could cost as much as ₱2,000,000 Philippine pesos, which is about US$33,000 at a recent exchange rate. We still do not know exactly how many stents Ian will need, because that can only be determined after the angiogram. GoFundMe does not support payouts to the Philippines, so I am organizing this fundraiser from the United States and will receive the funds through my U.S. bank account and send them directly to Ian’s family for his hospital bills and urgent care.
Ian is a professional musician and is known and loved in the music community in our hometown. More than that, he is a devoted husband to Joy and a loving father to Frances and Jude. He has spent years sharing his talent, heart, and presence with others. Now our family is asking for help so he can receive the treatment he urgently needs and have the chance to keep living for the people who love him.
We are raising funds to help cover:
• angiogram
• angioplasty
• possible stents
• emergency hospital care and admission
• medications
• follow-up treatment
• related urgent medical expenses
In the Philippines, many families still carry a large share of medical costs out of pocket, and delays in care can become devastating when hospitals are underfunded, equipment is limited, or medicines are unavailable. Recent official figures show out-of-pocket household spending remains a major part of healthcare financing there.
If you feel moved to help, any amount means so much to our family. If you are not able to donate, please consider sharing Ian’s story and keeping him in your prayers. We are deeply grateful for every act of kindness, generosity, and support.
Thank you for helping us fight for Ian’s life.
With love and gratitude,
Maria Codrington
