Honey’s story is one of resilience and hope. Rescued from a kill pen during the pandemic, she arrived with a baby nursing at her side, painfully thin and starved. Against all odds, Honey survived, and after her second baby was weaned, she was adopted by the Diaz family. Since then, Honey has become a cherished trail horse, teaching kids gymkhana, riding in parades, and helping children learn about horses. She even helped Katherine through a difficult time with her health, offering comfort and companionship when it was needed most. Now, Honey cares for Valentine, a mini mule also rescued from a kill pen, teaching her how to be a horse and sharing her gentle spirit with everyone she meets.

A few nights ago, Honey’s life took a sudden turn. The Diaz family found her struggling to breathe and rushed her to an emergency vet late at night. The situation was dire—the vet wasn’t sure Honey would survive, and a large deposit was required for treatment. With no time to spare, the family borrowed a trailer and drove as fast as they could, determined not to let Honey suffer. Thanks to the kindness of a friend, the deposit was covered, but the bills are much higher than the initial cost. Honey needs antibiotics for her infection and surgery to remove an obstruction in her intestines. Without this care, she won’t make it.
