Help save Hallie

Donation protected

Hallie is an 2.5 year old border collie, with the soul and patience way beyond her years. She touches the lives around her on a daily basis. Whether is be me, my friends and family, complete strangers at the shops or in the street. But in particularly her visits to aged care facilities is where she shines.

For anyone who knows Hallie she’s my right hand man, my wing woman, my ride or die. My absolutely everything. There’s nothing in this world that brings me more joy than seeing her smiling face and howling with excitement.

On the 30th of April Hallie had her  specialist appointment at SASH, which was confirmed she has the disease Patent Ductus Arteriosus or for short PDA.

PDA is a birth defect in the heart. It is caused by incomplete changes in the heart's circulation when a dog is born. The ductus arteriosus is an important blood vessel that ensures that blood does not go to the lungs unnecessarily as the fetus is developing in the uterus. During the first few hours after birth, this blood vessel naturally closes off. This allows blood to travel normally through the lungs for oxygenation as the lungs begin to function when the puppy takes its first breath. In some puppies the ductus arteriosus remains open (patent). This results in serious, life-threatening changes in the way that the heart pumps blood through the heart and to the rest of the body.

Hallie is considered to be extremely lucky to have had the condition gone undetected, and made it to the age she is today. Unfortunately 70% of dogs with this condition will die of heart failure by the age of 1.

Due to the condition gone undetected, for so long Hallie has already begun to suffer. Her left side of her heart has started to enlarge, and without it being corrected she will die from congestive heart failure.

But there is good news! There is a surgery Hallie can have to fix PDA and for her to live a happy healthy life, and live well into her teens without this ever being an issue again. Unfortunately it’s not cheap costing $7500 all up, and the surgery wanting to be done in May.

Due to life circumstances, and working part time. I’m in the position I don’t have all the funds to afford her life saving surgery. I understand this is a difficult time  of alot of people, but if you could please help in anyway or even by spreading the word. No amount is too small, every cent will go along way.

Lastly I’d like to thank everyone who has taken the time to read and donate, every little bit counts. Hallie and myself appreciate the support and will be forever grateful ❤️

Much love Hallie and Jess
