The Grand Noir du Berry is a critically endangered French breed of donkey. There have been fewer than 20 births in the breed in 2025 in France. My friend, Priscil Laurin, breeds them and works tirelessly to save and promote the breed. This year, she had four births, three boys and one girl. In the last few months, she has had a series of veterinary issues, starting with the loss of her 3-year old stallion to colic, and then a jenny ill with piroplasmosis, and two foals who needed a lot of help just after birth due to the terrible heatwave. The vet bills have been mounting up relentlessly. And now, one of her jennies, Carmen, a nursing female with a young filly called Pivoine (peony) is ill with guttural pouch mycosis. This is an awful illness that can be fatal if not treated immediately. It's a fungal infection that causes profuse bleeding. Priscil wants to take her to the best equine hospital in the area for treatment but this will be expensive, and she is almost out of resources. I am appealing to all of you to please chip in to help her save this rare and precious donkey. Any amount is fine and very, very welcome! I know how kind and generous you all are, so I am counting on you! Thank you!
