Help little Gilbert

Hi everyone,

This is incredibly hard for me to write, but we’ve reached a point where we’re out of options, and we’re asking for help.

Our sweet boy Gilbert—our 8-month-old Abyssinian kitten—has been battling a severe and persistent intestinal infection for months. We’ve now spent over $3,000 in vet bills, medications, tests, and special diets, and despite our best efforts, Gilbert is still suffering.

He has Tritrichomonas foetus (TF)—a stubborn and painful parasitic infection that causes relentless diarrhea and, now, rectal bleeding every time he uses the litter box. It’s heartbreaking to watch him go through this. He’s been on multiple medications, probiotics, and treatments, but nothing has worked. The infection is only getting worse, and we’re terrified of the long-term damage this is causing to his little body.

What makes this even harder is that Gilbert came to us already sick, and although we got him insured right away, his policy had a 3-month waiting period. His symptoms started during that time, so anything related to diarrhea or intestinal issues is permanently excluded from coverage. Despite paying for insurance, not a single dollar of his treatment has been reimbursed.

We’ve reached the point where we need to try a medication called ronidazole—the only treatment proven to cure TF—but it’s extremely hard to get in Canada and may require ordering it through a special international source under a vet’s guidance. And of course, more vet visits and testing are needed before we can proceed.

I’ve taken on extra cleaning jobs to help cover the costs, but it’s just not enough. We’re doing everything we can, but we’re financially tapped—and emotionally drained.

If you can spare even $5 or $10, it would mean the world to us. Every little bit brings us closer to getting Gilbert healthy and pain-free before this turns into something irreversible. He’s still a baby, and he deserves a long, happy, healthy life.
