Update: Gatsby has passed.
With heavy hearts, we have to share that Gatsby didn't make it. He passed away this morning during an emergency transfer to a critical care facility. The veterinary team did everything they could, including CPR, but he was gone.
Gatsby was Lacy's 11-year-old cat and her primary emotional support animal. He was her steadfast companion through everything, there for her longer than almost anyone else in her life. He was loved completely and without reservation.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of this community, we raised enough to attempt to save him. That meant everything to us. You showed up when it mattered most, even though the outcome wasn't what we hoped for.
Over the past several days, since his diabetes diagnosis, Gatsby was seen at three emergency veterinary hospitals as his condition rapidly deteriorated into diabetic ketoacidosis. The total cost of his care came to approximately $9,000. Every penny raised went directly toward fighting for his life.
Any additional funds will go toward Gatsby's aftercare and helping Lacy and Jordy return to some financial stability after what has been a devastating and traumatic few days.
Thank you for loving him with us. He knew he was loved. He is already deeply missed.
