Hi, my name is Liam, and I’m writing this on behalf of myself and my partner Jenn about our dog Freya, who means the absolute world to us.
Freya is our beautiful 4-year-old lurcher; full of life, love, and personality. She has the kind of huge, gentle heart that everyone falls in love with the moment they meet her. It’s not just her beauty, but her nature. She’s affectionate, playful, and deeply bonded to the people around her. She’s such a big part of our daily life, and our home feels completely centred around her.
Over the past week, everything has changed very quickly.
Freya became unwell and needed multiple trips to the vets starting on Easter Sunday. It wasn't until the fourth vet visit later that week, that they discovered a large amount of fluid in her chest. Since then, she has been hospitalised and has now had almost 1 litre of fluid drained from around her lungs and heart. The fluid has been returning very quickly, and this has made her breathing difficult and she has barely eaten in over 8 days.
After further scans, the vets now believe there is likely an abscess located behind her heart. This is a serious condition and requires urgent investigation and treatment. She is currently being treated with strong antibiotics, and we are waiting for further results from fluid analysis to identify the exact bacteria involved.
Freya is booked in for a CT scan at North Dowths specialist referral centre, which will help determine:
* Whether or not this is definitly and absess and the exact location and size of the structure
* whether there is an underlying cause, such as a foreign body
* and what treatment is needed (which may include surgery)
Right now, we are in the most difficult stage; waiting for answers while trying to keep her stable and comfortable.
So far, we have already faced significant veterinary costs, including multiple emergency visits and hospitalisation. The most recent hospital stay alone has been around £1,500, with approximately £4,000 spent over the past week. We have also been given an estimate of £4,000–£7,000 for the specialist CT scan and further treatment.
We have done everything we can so far to fund her care ourselves, including taking out credit and using savings. However, with costs continuing to rise, we are now reaching a point where we need help.
We are asking for support to give Freya the best possible chance.
Any funds raised will go directly towards:
* emergency veterinary care and hospitalisation
* CT scan and specialist investigations
* medications and ongoing treatment
* and any surgical procedures that may be needed
Freya is such a loved, bright, and full-of-life dog, and we are not ready to lose her. At just 4 years old, she should have so much more life ahead of her. If this is something treatable, we want to be able to give her that chance without financial limitations standing in the way.
We understand times are difficult for many people, so even sharing this page would mean so much to us.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read Freya’s story and for any support you can give.
Liam & Jenn
