If you know me, you know how much I love animals. My two 5-year-old cats, Cade and Floyd, are not just pets—they’re my family, my best friends, and they’ve been inseparable brothers since birth.

Right now, Floyd is fighting for his life.

On Wed, Aug 13, Floyd started acting strangely—clingy and not himself.

By Thu, Aug 14, he couldn’t walk straight and was slow to respond. His heart rate was dangerously low, but left the very normal after some medication. While the first vet thought he’d eaten something toxic and would recover in 24 hours, things only got worse.

On Fri, Aug 15, Floyd began having seizures. He became limp and unresponsive and had to be rushed to the Emergency Vet. He was admitted immediately and placed on oxygen, a heart monitor, and an IV. After consulting with a neurologist, the vet confirmed there’s a serious neurological issue—not poisoning.

There is hope. The neurologist believes Floyd can recover, but the cost of care is devastating: $9,000 just to see the neurologist, for the MRI and so forth, with total treatment expected to be $10,000–$20,000. I’ve already spent thousands, but I can’t give up on him. Floyd is young, he’s loved, and most of all—Cade needs his brother. They’ve never been apart, and Cade is already lost without him.

The vet has assured me Floyd is not in pain. My only goal is to bring him home to Cade where he belongs.

As of 10:00 PM, Fri, Aug 15, Floyd remains at the Emergency Vet on IV, oxygen, a heart monitor, and a warming blanket. He is scheduled to see the neurologist and undergo an MRI in the morning. I’ll continue to post updates as I learn more.
