Help Save Ernesto’s Hand
Donation protected
On March 19th 2023, Ernesto had an accident while cutting wood severely injuring all the fingers on his right hand, and completely severing his thumb.
Having been a tattoo artist for more than 30 years, his livelihood is completely dependent on his hands.
Upon arrival at Clinica San Miguel hospital on the evening of March 19th, the doctors in the emergency room spent over three hours reconnecting the severed arteries so that there would be blood flow to the fingers in order to avoid a complete amputation.
He will be going into surgery today March 20th at 4 PM, only after will we know if the fingers could be saved and what recovery will look like for Ernesto.
Unfortunately, Ernesto did not have medical insurance at the time of the accident. The expenses for emergency room care, time in the hospital, and subsequent physical therapy are enough to bankrupt anyone. Hospital costs will be posted as soon as they are made available by the hospital administration.
As a talented Tattoo Artist, Ernesto is the sole provider for his wife and 9-year-old daughter.
UPDATE March 21st:
During yesterday's surgery, they were able to save 4 of Ernesto's fingers, but his right thumb was unable to be reattached.
Ernesto will need physical therapy to regain full motion of the fingers in his right hand and a prosthetic thumb.
Ernesto is scheduling hyperbaric chamber therapy to make sure his hand has a better chance to heal.
