Hi my name is Nick and I want to help raise money to save Erika Sunset Bar.

 

A couple of years ago I went to travel in Legian, Bali and stumbled upon Erika Sunset Bar on Kuta Beach. It was a small bar on a beautiful beach where travelers could come to rent a surfboard, eat a good meal, or simply hang out and have some peanuts and beer. I rented a board and surfed all day (occasionally coming in for some tasty Bali peanuts and a fresh coconut from Erika). Unfortunately, at some point I ran out of money and Erika and her husband Ketut saved me by sharing food and hospitality at their bar, and even invited me to stay in their home with them. After hanging around at the Sunset Bar for days, Ketut and Erika became to feel like family to me. I would help run errands and talk to tourists for them, and they would share meals with me and let me borrow a board.

 

Ever since the pandemic began and tourism halted in Bali, Erika and Ketut have struggled to earn money for basic necessities as well as to pay rent to keep the spot for the bar. They were also hit with giant tidal waves from an offshore earthquake that swept away and destroyed much of the bar. After 17 years of business, countless memories, and genuine connections with travelers, they are being forced to shut down and leave the beach. When I left I said that one day I'd become rich and come back to repay them, but now it appears like they might not be there when I return.

 

Please help me raise some money for Erika and Ketut! I know every little donation will go a long way for them. Even if the bar is gone this money will greatly help as they transition to a new business venture and also with their basic living expenses with their daughter.
