Help Save Elphaba — Emergency Surgery & Critical Care Needed

This year has not gotten off to a good start here at Happily Furever After Rescue, and our hearts are heavy as we ask for help yet again for one of our mama cats—sweet Elphaba.

Over the past week, Elphaba’s health rapidly declined. She began losing weight, became extremely lethargic, stopped eating and drinking, and most days wouldn’t even get up. We knew something was very wrong. Our team was at the vet every single day—administering fluids, checking vitals, and running test after test—trying desperately to get answers.

Yesterday, her condition worsened, and Elphaba was admitted to the emergency veterinary hospital. After extensive testing and an overnight stay receiving round-the-clock care, the vets discovered a dangerous buildup of fluid in her stomach and intestines. Their conclusion: Elphaba likely has a blockage in her colon.

We were faced with an unimaginable decision—euthanasia, or emergency exploratory surgery to try to save her life.

At Happily Furever After Rescue, we never give up on our animals. Elphaba was immediately rushed into surgery, and as of now, we are anxiously awaiting an update.

With daily vet visits, overnight ER hospitalization, and now emergency surgery, Elphaba’s medical bill has already reached $7,000—and continues to climb. To make matters even harder, earlier this month we were hit with an additional $3,000 emergency bill for one of our kittens. As a small, foster-based rescue, expenses like this are overwhelming without community support.
