Help Save Dunky-Boi

Hi, I'm fundraising for a sweet seven-year-old dog named Duncan, who was recently diagnosed with a thyroid tumor. He needs surgery to remove it so he can have the chance to continue living a long, happy life.

This all happened so fast. One day, Duncan was just his usual happy self, but I noticed something strange: our other dog started biting at Duncan’s neck, which he had never done before. It was like he sensed something wasn’t right. Then I saw the swelling myself, and Duncan started acting differently. We rushed to the vet and after several tests, we were referred to a veterinary oncologist.

That’s when I got the news: Duncan has a malignant thyroid tumor, and he’ll need a specialist surgeon to remove it as soon as possible. Thyroid tumors are relatively rare in dogs, accounting for only 1% to 4% of all canine tumors. Most are carcinomas, which are locally invasive. They can grow into nearby structures like the trachea, blood vessels, or esophagus. About 30 to 60 percent of these tumors metastasize, often spreading to the lungs or lymph nodes. As the tumor grows, it can eventually compress the windpipe or esophagus, making it difficult to breathe or swallow. Without treatment, this tumor could shorten Duncan’s life and severely affect his quality of living. That’s why timely surgery is so important.

Why This Matters

Duncan is not “just a dog.” He’s been with me since he was 8 weeks old, a brand-new baby, and has been by my side through every moment of my adult life.

He’s traveled the country with me from Colorado to Ohio, and everywhere in between. He’s my emotional support, my comfort, my best friend. I truly can’t imagine life without him.

This surgery is his best shot at beating this tumor and continuing to live the life he deserves. I will do anything and everything to make sure he’s in the best hands and gets the care he needs.
