Don Santiago’s Heart Is Failing and With It, a Living Legacy of the Andes.

High in the Peruvian Andes live the Q’ero people, guardians of an ancient lineage that has survived conquest, time, and modern forgetting. They are known as the last descendants of the Inca mountain people who live in deep reciprocity with the Earth, the Apus (sacred mountains), and all of life. Their wisdom is not written in books, but carried in breath, prayer, ceremony, and heart.

Don Santiago is one of these men.

He is 58 years old, a devoted father of five children, a son to two living parents, and a respected elder within the Q’ero community. His life has been one of service to his family, his people, the land, to his students of the western world and the ancestral traditions that remind us how to live in harmony with Pachamama, our Mother Earth.

Today, Don Santiago is fighting for his life.

He is currently hospitalized at San José Private Clinic in Cusco, one of the only places where he can receive the specialized care he urgently needs. Don Santiago is suffering from advanced heart failure. His heart is no longer able to pump blood effectively through his body, and as a result, he is now dependent on continuous oxygen support just to breathe.

Because of this heart failure, his body is showing the painful effects:

*Severe weakness and exhaustion

*Swelling of the legs and ligaments

*Fluid retention throughout the body

*Difficulty breathing

*Limited mobility and strength

Though he is currently stable, his condition is serious and time-sensitive. Doctors have confirmed that life saving heart surgery is urgently required. Without it, his condition will continue to deteriorate.

For Don Santiago’s family, this is unbearable.

His five children are watching their father fade before their eyes. His parents the elders themselves are living through the unimaginable pain of seeing their son suffer. The family is doing everything they can, but the cost of private medical care and heart surgery in Peru is far beyond their means.

This is why we are asking for help.

Their sacred wisdoms have gifted me a harmonious healthy life as they have to all of their students. This is the least I can do.

The Q’ero people live simply, humbly, and in devotion to the Earth. They do not accumulate wealth. Their richness is spiritual, ancestral, and ecological. But modern medicine does not operate in ayni the sacred Andean principle of reciprocity and access to life-saving care comes at a cost they cannot carry alone. They do not have the funding for this operation.

If Don Santiago survives this surgery, his recovery will be more than personal healing.

It will be the preservation of wisdom.

The continuation of prayer traditions passed through generations.

A living bridge between ancient knowledge and future generations.

His heart carries more than blood it carries memory, ceremony, and teachings that cannot be replaced.
