Help Save Denali
Denali (or Takeo as I call him) has had a rough start. He came from a backyard breeder in Merced, California. When his previous owners got him, he was already sick with a severe case of giardia and roundworms. They tried to feed him beef broth with garlic, garlic being toxic to dogs, which only made the situation worse.
When they brought him in to the vet, he was diagnosed with an intussusception. An intussusception is a horrible condition in which the intestines basically collapse in on themselves, not unlike a collapsing telescope. It is a very dangerous and painful condition that is expensive to treat. The owners did not have the money to treat him, so they surrendered him to the Nevada Boxer Rescue (also known as Boxers and Buddies).
Since then, he has had round the clock care by veterinarians at Mount Rose Animal Hospital and the Animal Emergency and Specialty Center here in Reno, Nevada, as well as myself (his foster mom). Unfortunately, he is still having a rough time. The intussusception managed to fix itself, but with everything that has happened, his body has gone into stasis and is not digesting the food we are getting into him.
His last chance is to get into the U.C. Davis School of Veterinary Medicine to have more sophisticated diagnostic procedures as well as treatment to find out whether this is something that we can treat or an underlying congenital condition. So we are asking for your help in giving this little guy the best chance he has of survival. And who knows? Maybe his unique case will be a great benefit to the study of veterinary medicine under the care of the awesome veterinarians at U.C. Davis!
So please consider sharing this fundraiser, and if you can, we would appreciate any and all donations. Any funds that go above and beyond what is needed for this little guy’scare will go directly into the all volunteer-run rescue to help other dogs in need.
