On March 21st 2020, There was an executive order issued to close all Gyms down in the state of Florida. On March 23rd 2020, Debs Gym shut its doors to the public, numerous trainers, and the people who needed it to survive, Like Mrs. Deb herself.
If you have no idea who Debbie Callahan is, let me introduce you!
She is a mother, a grandmother, a great grandmother, a wife, a gym owner, and a personal trainer. But what you need to know is she is a friend, a therapist, a life coach, a cheerleader, a shoulder to lean on or cry on.. She is the person you call when you just had a breakup or when you are feeling down…. You call her when you need advice or to help you calm a storm. You call her when you have no place to go on Thanksgiving and she invites you over to be a part of your family… and when her dad asks who “this person is”...... she just says “she’s mine”, without hesitation you become her family in an instant. She is a healer, an encourager and honestly a life saver to many.
She was a powerlifter who moved over to bodybuilding and became one the first bodybuilders in her area. She has lived in Lakeland her entire life and she has owned Debs gym for over 30 years. Her heart and soul is invested in that gym because of what it means to her members. We go there to vent, to lift and get rid of our demons. We go there to workout out frustrations, our anxiety, our depression and we walk out feeling life we conquered it all…. But not before talking with Mrs. Deb for 10-15mins about life, love, gyms stuff or just to say hi! She is always there and always ready to help you out in any way she can!
I can honestly tell you that she has saved many more lives than she will ever know. She has helped so many transform their bodies and minds. She works with many cancer survivors, abuse survivors, previous addicts and anyone is welcomed in her gym. As soon as you walk in… it will feel like you are home! She will load you up with any knowledge you want without charging you a dime! I have known many trainers over the years and no one I know would share the knowledge she has without a price! She is also one of the most cost-friendly trainers in the area. She charges less than any trainer around for personal training and her gym membership hasn't changed in over 10 YEARS! All because she wants everyone to be able to afford a great gym and an affordable training to get them to their goals.
To know her is to truly love her!
I am telling you all of this because this woman who has helped all of us for so long…. Who has helped her community……. She needs our help now! This is our time to give back and thank her for everything she has done for Lakeland and Polk County. I know that thousands call, drive, text her from all over the country just for her knowledge and help and she is always willing….. Now it's our turn!
Debs Gym needs HELP! With no clients for well over 6 weeks her gym is in trouble. The property owner is not helping her at all and is insisting that the lease still be paid regardless of the gym being closed by the government.
I know we all may be struggling at this time and my heart goes out to everyone affected by this pandemic. I am asking if you can give in anyway possible…. Then please give. $1, $5, $10…. Every little bit will go straight to Debs gym to keep her doors open so that when the government lifts restrictions she can go back to helping people in her gym…. The gym that is home to so many!
Unlike many “big gyms”, she has received no help. Even after filing for every government program out there… she has still had no response in over 6 weeks. While big companies are getting bailed out, she is wondering how to keep her gym open for the many that depend on her! Just Move will be fine, Planet Fitness will be fine, Crunch will be fine…… But Debs gym needs us!
Give if at all possible. Help this gym stay open!!!
All the donated money will go straight to Deb and there will be no percentage taken out for posting this Go Fund Me. She is the full recipient of the funds. All funds will be directed towards helping Deb run her gym without financial stain.
