Help Save Dasha's Leg

Donation protected
****UPDATE 05/11/23 ****
In the first 24 hours, we have raised over $7,000 and we can not thank you enough for your overwhelming support.

Yesterday, May 10th, Dasha had major surgery to debride dead and diseased tissue which was quite successful. Blood tests can help doctors identify markers of infection and how the body is responding. As of the evening of May 10th, Dasha's infection markers have dropped by half.

We hope her body can fight off any remaining infection and if this continues downward, we might have the option of plastic surgery. This surgery would fill the open wound with muscle tissue from another part of her body. Once healed, doctors can move to an external fixation on her leg to heal the bone for another several months.

Help share this story with friends and family and if you haven't already, leave words of encouragement for Dasha as she keeps fighting this infection.

I am fundraising on behalf of my best friend Kully. Please take a few moments to read this unimaginable story and keep your heart open as my friends traverse a long road ahead -- Alexa (05/10/23)

"Family, friends and good samaritans,

My name is Kully and recently my girlfriend Daria (Dasha) Smirnova was in a severe motorbike accident that resulted in an open fracture on her left leg. The doctors here in Indonesia have completed a series of big surgeries and hospitalizations to try to save her leg. The personal costs are exceeding $40,000 and continue to climb. Dasha is a fighter but with this lingering infection, there is an increased risk of losing her leg. Her international health insurance denied her coverage because she was on a scooter.

We are seeking your financial help and words of encouragement. We are beyond grateful for your time and consideration. Your contribution will help Dasha as she prepares mentally, physically and emotionally for an uphill battle.

Dasha is truly ambitious and an intelligent woman. I am drawn to the adventurous spirit that has taken her around the world. Her love of seeking out new experiences through personal and cultural connections has fueled a zealotry for life that has inspired me and those around her. Dasha's intellectual drive secured an acceptance to a Masters's program in Finance at Bocconi University in Milan, Italy. A love for dance and exploration of nature has been a source of passion since she could remember. Every day I am thankful that Dasha came into my life and I will do everything I can to protect her ambitions and zest for life.

On the evening of May 1st, Dasha swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle and lost control of the scooter resulting in an open fracture in the leg. She received surgery the following morning with an external fixture and continued to heal slowly. Unfortunately, there was evidence of an infection and doctors struggled to find AB- blood, which is rare in Indonesia. Through intense campaigning and the goodwill of strangers, we found the donors needed to help save her life at that time. The current battle is still fighting the infection because it threatens the recovery of her leg. She is scheduled for debridement surgery to remove infected tissue. She will need a THIRD surgery to install an internal fixation to help heal the bone and hopefully make a full recovery

We are seeking your help as personal funds are limited and all hospitalization/surgery expenses are out of pocket. Currently, we have spent $20,035 in the first week of hospitalizations/surgeries but we are estimating over $40,000 for total expenses. We hope with your generous donations we can subsidize our expenses and ensure Dasha receives the best treatment to give her a fighting chance to recover fully. All your donations will be applied directly to her medical expenses and extra funds will then go towards physical rehabilitation.

Thank you so much for both your time and your consideration,

Kully"
