Our sweet Darko has been part of our family for 12 years, filling our lives with love, loyalty, and joy. Sadly, this past August we received heartbreaking news: Darko has a tumor on his heart, causing Pericardial Effusion Tamponade, right-sided heart failure, chronic valve disease, and severe mitral and tricuspid regurgitation.
What this means is that fluid builds up around his heart, creating a dangerous bubble of pressure. Despite multiple medications and more than five fluid drainings, the relief only lasts a week before the fluid returns, leaving him weak and uncomfortable. At any moment, this pressure could trigger a fatal heart attack.
According to his cardiologist, Darko’s only chance is a surgery called a pericardiectomy – the removal of the pericardial sac that’s trapping the fluid. This would ease the pressure on his heart and allow the fluid to spread safely throughout his body instead of suffocating his heart.
We’ve already spent about $11,000 on tests, drainings, medications, and special food just trying to give him more time. The recommended surgery costs $10,000–$12,000, and with post-surgery monitoring and rehabilitation, the total will be around $15,000.
Darko is not “just a dog” – he is family. He has stood by us through every stage of life, and now we want to stand by him in his fight for more time.
We humbly ask for your help. Any donation, big or small, will bring us closer to saving Darko’s life and giving him more days of comfort, love, and joy. Even if you cannot donate, please share this page to help us reach more hearts.
From the bottom of our hearts – and from Darko’s too – thank you for your kindness and support.
