Help Save Christian Beasley

Sentencing (Newsweek article March 2018)

My son Christian Beasley, an American citizen, was arrested and imprisoned for possessing an insignificant amount of marijuana last year in Indonesia.

He has been tortured, burned, beaten and threatened with being maimed.  When guards and inmates threatened to kill him, he broke out of jail in an attempt to save himself.  He was captured and some prison guards were punished and as a result, the abuse in prison has increased.

Because he is an American, they assumed he has money, which he does not.  The police over-charged him ignoring evidence and documentation that he has a medical problem alleviated by mild use of marijuana.  The police ignored his doctor's notes and charged my son as a dealer even though he had not sold anything and there was no evidence he ever had.  He had an insignificant quantity of marijuana [around 5 grams which is about a fifth of an ounce].

We fear they are trying to imprison him for twelve years.  He has already been incarcerated for six months simply awaiting disposition of the case.

I have already gone into debt for over $25,000 for legal fees in addition to other expenses.  I have tried to take food to the prison because very little food is provided and they will not give it to him.  With ongoing torture and attacks, I want to provide medicine to keep him from getting worse, but I can’t.

My lawyers believe we can get him moved to a safer prison and maybe even released with a reduced charge.  I desperately need financial help for his legal fees and for food and health supplies to keep him alive in prison.  In many third world nations, if the family does not support their incarcerated relatives, they simply die in prison.  I have no idea how long this situation will last and additional legal fees and other expenses needed to defend my son could easily reach over $100,000.  Right now my most desperate needs are for five to ten thousand dollars for legal fees due to the lawyers in the next few weeks.  I am trying to borrow more money, but my options very are limited.

Even if we succeed in getting him released, he will have a long recovery from the abuse and health issues caused by his being tortured in jail.

I am a mother trying to keep her son alive in a desperate situation where he is being victimized because he is an American.

Recently, President Trump has considered getting involved in the situation.  I appeal to you to not only give but also contact your elected representatives and the President to ask for their help.  Here’s the where you go to contact the President:   Contact President Trump

I am deeply grateful for any help you can provide.

Each time I see my son, I dread learning what new physical atrocities have been carried out.  The other prisoners use cigarettes to burn him when he is sleeping.  They beat him because they think he will pay them not to hurt him.  Authorities do not want this information out and I have only been able to get a couple of pictures.  But this torture is happening all the time.
