Help save Chase's leg

Donation protected
November 12th, my family was working on putting posts in our backyard making a better dog run for our dogs. One person opened the back gate and did not close it and entered our other gate and one of dogs got out, Chase. He quickly discovered that the fence had an opening and took off for a run.

My husband and son quickly got in the car to chase him as he is really fast. Unfortunately, Chase decided to run onto a busy street and ran into the back of a vehicle breaking his leg. He still did not want to be caught and continued running until my son was finally able to catch up to him. They noticed right away that his back right leg was flopping around. They called me as I was away from home and I came home as quick as I could.

Of course this happened on a Saturday afternoon and our normal vet we see is closed. I took him to a local ER veterinarian to X-ray his back leg to see how bad it is. Chase was in shock and they put him on IV fluids and medicine to help calm him down, treat his pain and to finish assessing him.

After taking the X-ray, we discovered he snapped his back right leg in half. The ER vet quoted me $3000 to $4000 to have surgery to fix his break during the week when they had more staff on hand. They would charge around $1500 to $2000 to amputate his back leg if we chose to go that route. She told me low income veterinary offices might charge close to $700 to amputate and I might want to call around on Monday to see what I can find if I chose for them to not operate on Chase.

My veterinarian that I always go has a great board certified orthopedic surgeon that they use. She told me the surgery to save his leg should not go over $2500. I have talked to my vet tech (we have been texting the whole time) and other AKK owners and are encouraging me to try to save his leg if possible!

It is very hard for me to ask for help like this. I do not want Chase to have to lose his leg but I do not know what else to do. We have had a very rough year with sick doggies. We have borrowed money from family to pay for those expenses and had just paid them back right before this happened.

I was able to put the ER expenses on our care credit card that I had just paid off and have maxed out what little credit I had on that card. I would be eternally grateful for any help that you could help us with. So far, his vet expenses are at $723.01 and will be going up this week when we schedule his surgery. Depending on how much we are able to raise, it will determine if he keeps or loses his leg. Please help!
