Caylee was born with Fibular Hemimelia, she’s missing her fibula in her left leg and and a short bowed tibia. She also only has three toes on her left foot . Her condition is very rare and there is no cause , it just happens randomly.
Caylee had her first surgery on August 13th in Baltimore Maryland at Sinai Hospital. She had her tibia corrected and a SUPER ankle procedure that rebuilt her ankle. She still currently has an external fixator on her leg. We had to turn it for 6 weeks slowly pulling her bone apart to fix the bow and to gain some length. She has many pins in her leg. We are now done turning and are in the healing period while we wait for her bone to heal back together. She will have x rays in 2 more weeks and we will find out when it can be removed. Once it’s removed she will get another pin through the bone under a cast to continue healing and will then have to be put under anesthesia again to get that pin removed .
Caylee will have several move surgeries over the years including at least two lengthenings. She will have a lifted shoe between surgeries to even out her limb discrepancy. She is such a fighter and so strong , her family couldn’t be more proud of this little girl. The nights have been long and she’s been put through so much , she’s currently dealing with her 3rd pinsite infection.
We are lucky enough to have insurance through my husbands work but unfortunately it still leaves uswith so many bills , adding up to a lot more than werealized it would be and they keep coming . Caylee is eligible for medical assistance for a secondary insurance due to her condition but sadly the only doctor that could save her leg is in Maryland and you can’t use PA medical assistance in Maryland , so it can’t cover anything at all. The only thing doctors in PA could do was amputate her leg. It was a hard decision to make but we decided to save her leg and we are so very happy that we made that decision .
If you aren’t able to donate , please share to get Caylees story out there . And please teach your children to be kind , and that it’s ok to be different. Thank so much!!!
