Help Save Cancer Survivors Emotional Support Dog
Donation protected
In 2009, my single mother, Shari Silverman, was diagnosed with Leukemia. She went through multiple round of chemotherapy, and was told that her only chance of surviving was to get a bone marrow transplant. After months of searching for a donor, she was able to get the transplant which saved her life.
There has been lots of ups and downs with my mothers health in the last 11 years. From recurrences of cancer cells (as recent as last month), graft vs host disease, several surgeries, a code blue, thyroid issues, cataracts etc. She has also dealt with losing almost every other patient she met through her cancer journey, leading to extreme depression, anxiety, sleep deprivation and other mental health issues.
Throughout all this, my moms dog Charlie has been there supporting her through it all. He is a 10 year old Shorkie (Shitzu-Yorkie). My mom was very lucky to be able to have gotten Charlie 9 months after her transplant, and he has provided emotional support throughout her entire journey, as she lost her job, home, car, and countless friends to cancer.
Charlie has never had any health issues until earlier this week, when we found out that he has stones in his urethra and bladder and an enlarged prostate, preventing him from using the bathroom.
He will need to get 2 surgeries to save his life - one to blast the stones back into his bladder, and one to remove the stones completely from his bladder. This is an emergency situation, and the estimated cost is $5000 for the surgeries, medication, and special food for Charlie.
My mom is not ready to say goodbye to Charlie, as he continues to provide emotional support to her everyday. Doctors have estimated he could live another 5-7 years if he gets the surgery, but will only live a couple of weeks without it.
Any donations are appreciated.
