Help Save Byron's Organs (updated goals)
Donation protected
As many of you know, I've been fighting pancreatic cancer, more specifically, Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type I, for quite some time. I absolutely refuse to die. Each time I post an update, a sadness fills my heart because I so eagerly want to declare that I have defied the odds and completely gone into remission. Instead, I get the pleasure of bragging about how prior donations have fueled a life filled with excitement, joy, gratitude, and an insatiable thirst to keep living!
Last week I was admitted to the hospital again. This is not an uncommon occurence. However, this time, I was informed that I have a perforated divirticulitum along my duodenal lining that is inoperable. It is similar to what I experienced this past spring when I was placed in a medically induced coma and put on a ventilator for the week to allow surgical healing. Unfortunately, the first surgical opinion is to remove a few more organs to rectify the situation.
Here is where I need help. I want to see a specialist down at Ohio State for the procedure and try less drastic measures. It would require several more trips and overnight stays, another round of octreatide injections to bring down acid production, and multiple CT and MRI scans plus an endoscopic scope. I've spent nearly 4 months in a hospital bed this year already and the financial toll has been dire. I truly hope it does not seem desperate to ask for help again, but I need help.
Without the generosity of everyone, I wouldn't be here today. I can't thank everyone enough! The situation is pressing because I'm unable to fully eat and require IV fed nutrition while I'm in limbo awaiting a procedure to correct the perforation or removal of most of my digestive tract and permanently no longer eating. I'd prefer to find a solution as soon as possible.
Today I meet with the surgical team to find out how long I potentially have until I lose my ability to eat, and surgery is absolutely required. I've been told a matter of weeks. I hope to continue making waves on this planet for years to come, but I need help. No amount is too small. Thank you for your time and consideration! I hope to come back with good news and continue eating!
