Hi My name is Stuart Ross, owner of Bull Dog Coffee. I opened in 2003, starting the 3’rd wave coffee movement here in Toronto. I competed and became Toronto’s 1’sr Champion winning Barista. I was displaced after 11 years of business, due to a condo development. I moved back to my original location 3 weeks before the COVID pandemic hit. I made it through because of the help of Govt and Landlord funding. Everything was supposed to go back to ‘NORMAL’ with TMU (formally known at Ryerson University) set to return this September 2022 and then my area was hit, with what I am calling ‘CONSTRUCTION LOCKDOWN’. I look out my window’s and what would be hundred if not thousands of students would be walking around. NOTHING. My area is a continued state of LOCKDOWN. And a coffee shop, even after winning awards every year for best coffee and making my own fresh baked goods daily - I can no longer pay the RENT.
My coffee shop is my dream, but the continued extension of construction, which is blocking the ENTIRE intersection at Church St & Carlton St is KILLING my dream. The construction was supposed to last 3 weeks ending Sept. 2 is now for the fourth time been extended till mid-NOVEMBER. A coffee shop, no matter how good, can NOT survive on zero walk-by traffic.
I am desperately trying to raise 3 months rent so the Landlords do not kick me out before I can make a recovery.
Please help my dream survive.
