Bruin “BruBruPup” Barber, my soul-pup and best friend, began showing signs of distress Saturday afternoon, vomiting multiple times in just a few hours. I rushed him to the ER where initial tests and an ultrasound came back normal. He received fluids and anti-nausea medication but come Sunday he wasn’t improving. I brought him back to the ER where X-rays and another ultrasound revealed something blocked in his stomach. He stayed overnight and his condition worsened—constant bloody diarrhea, a slight fever, and he wasn’t responding to fluids. He’s had several more X-rays and ultrasounds and is currently on plasma transfusions, antibiotics, and pain medication. The root cause is unknown and baffling to me and the Vet. His treatment has been elevated to critical care. Bruin is fighting for his life, and the veterinary team is doing everything they can.
Bruin has touched thousands of lives, especially at Rice and Jones College, from students to faculty and staff. His gentle spirit and loving presence have brought comfort and joy to so many people over the years. He’s more than just a pet…he’s my baby boy and beloved by everyone who meets him.
Bruin is my best friend and constant companion. We go everywhere together; we’re truly attached at the hip.
This emergency trip has created a significant financial burden. Every dollar raised will go directly toward Bruin’s ER visits, tests, treatments, and ongoing critical care. I am doing everything possible to try and save my baby boy's life. I can tell he is fighting hard to get through this, but he needs at least a couple more days of intensive care.
I’m asking for help from my community to please try and save my handsome boy’s life. Any amount will be so appreciated.
