Hi everyone! I'm going to try and keep this short and sweet. This will be the first, and hopefully the last time I ever ask for help like this.
Yesterday I let Bowzer out of the car in Fishlakes National Park in Utah so he could see some of the cows. Before I knew it he was chasing after them like an absolute savage. At a certain point the cows turned around and fought back, and when I finally found Bowzer he had a completely broken rear femur bone.
I drove Bowzer about 3 hours to Grand Junction colorado where we're at now. Because it's the weekend, there is nobody available to do the surgery on him till Monday, and a splint won't work because of how the leg broke - so he's currently staying drugged up at the emergency vet until I either take him to Denver, or have him wait here till Monday.
The first vet I took Bowzer to told me my options are to have the surgery, amputate his leg, or put him to sleep. The first option costing about $8,000, the second about $3,000, and the putting to sleep option isn't even an option in my book. Because he has arthritis, the removal of the leg also doesnt seem like a great option, but it may be one I have to seriously consider.
It really goes against the fabric of my being to ask for any money, but deperate times call for desperate measures. If Bowzer has made an impact on your life in some small way, then maybe it will bring you great joy to try and help save his leg - and also his life.
I've had Bowzer since my 21st birthday about half a century ago, and simply can not stand to see the guy be taken out by a mere flesh wound like this. I know times are hard on a lot of people, so didn't feel like you have to give. A lil prayer will go a long way too!
Love you all,
Russell & Bowzer
