Help Save Big Shot – Training Needed to Prevent Euthanasia
Big Shot was saved from a high-kill shelter in Houston, TX just hours before he was scheduled to be euthanized due to overcrowding.
After being rescued, he was placed in boarding while waiting for a foster and was placed at a board-and-train facility in Houston. The staff was informed that Big Shot was overstimulated and highly stressed after enduring life in a chaotic shelter—where the lights never turn off and the barking never stops.
For several weeks, everything seemed to be going well. Follow-up calls and videos showed a dog who was decompressing—happy, calm, and grateful to be safe.
⸻
But on May 20, 2025, everything changed.
We received a call that Big Shot had bitten a kennel tech while being returned to his kennel.
Here’s what happened:
Big Shot was being brought back inside just as a group of dogs were being let out. The dogs began aggressively barking at Big Shot, and he became overstimulated and frustrated. He tried to turn back to go outside with them, and in the process of being redirected by the tech, he bit the tech’s hand in a reactive, fear-driven moment.
Big Shot has had no other incidents before or since.
He simply reacted in a stressful moment—just like a scared, confused dog might.
⸻
Now, the facility is recommending euthanasia, calling him “unpredictable.”
But the rescue—and a professional trainer—strongly disagree.
Big Shot doesn’t need to die.
He needs support.
We are raising $2,400 to fund the professional training Big Shot needs to work through his trauma and finally have a shot at a forever home. The trainer believes he is highly workable, and we believe he deserves that chance.
⸻
Big Shot was failed by humans more than once:
• First when he was dumped on the streets of Texas
• Again when he was placed in a noisy, overcrowded shelter
• And now, when a single reactive moment threatens his life
But you can help rewrite his story.
Please donate—any amount helps—and share Big Shot’s campaign with others who believe every dog deserves a second chance.
If we don’t raise the funds Big Shot may be euthanized.
Let’s give him the chance he never had.
Let’s save Big Shot.
Thank you
Big Shot progress has been amazing - he is thriving
His trainer would like to give him one more week of additional command training and is willing to do so for a additional $400
I just want to say thank you again to everyone who has helped get Big Shot to this point.
