Help Save Berenstein the Bear - Our Miracle Newfie Needs Your Support
Berenstein is fighting for his life - and winning, thanks to incredible medical care. Now we need your help to keep our family together.
Berenstein's Story
Two-year-old Berenstein the Bear, our gentle giant Newfoundland, became deathly ill without warning last week. One moment he was his happy, tail-wagging self - the next, he wouldn't eat and had lost all bowel control. We knew something was wrong, so we went to an emergency vet.
The diagnosis was terrifying: A cyst in his intestine had burst, flooding his abdomen with blood, mucus and infected fluid and causing life-threatening sepsis. Without immediate emergency surgery, we would lose him.
The Miracle
Despite facing the chance of death in a new medical facility, Berenstein's spirit never broke. Even as veterinarians rushed him into emergency surgery, his tail still wagged for every person who showed him kindness. Today, thanks to skilled veterinarians and round-the-clock intensive care, our miracle boy is alive and recovering. His personality shines as bright as ever - proof that fighting for him was the right choice.
Why We're Asking for Help
The emergency surgery, antibiotics, and intensive hospitalization saved Berenstein's life, but cost $15,000 in total with post-care expenses still to come.
With the dynamic survival rate of post-sepsis dogs it is crucial that we are able to modify Berenstein's environment to support a full recovery after he is discharged
Here's what we've done so far
Spent $7,500 on a deposit to allow them to start surgery
Enrolled in a life-saving study on sepsis recovery medication for the benefit of future canine patients
How Your Support Helps
Your donation directly helps us:
Pay the remainder of his bill so he can be discharged ($7500)
Pay down the debts incurred ($6,700)
Build a small emergency fund for his ongoing post-surgical care ($1800)
Goal: $15,000 to rebuild what we spent saving our bear's life
Berenstein Today
Despite everything he's been through, Berenstein greets each day with the same gentle joy that made us fall in love with him. He's proof that love and expert medical care can work miracles - and that some family members are worth every sacrifice.
