If you don't know Ben Short, he is one of the nicest guy's you will ever meet.

His home in the beautiful redwood mountains of

Santa Cruz is his happy place.

On New Years Eve, the intense rain from the atmospheric river storms that hit California caused a mudslide that collapsed the retaining walls and hillside that support Ben's house, destroying his backyard and septic system and leaving his house precariously perched on the edge of a steep debris flow. His property was red tagged by the County as unsafe for habitation due to the geological hazard. To remove the red tag and save his home of 12 years, Ben will need to hire geotechnical and civil engineers, obtain permits, construct new retaining walls and repair the septic at an expected cost of $250,000. Sadly his insurance denied the claim.
