Meet Bear, a gentle, loving soul who’s been through more than any dog should. Bear was rescued from a pub where he was being given away. His new mum was told he was just one years old, but it quickly became clear that wasn’t the truth, not about his age, and not about his condition.

From the moment she took him home, she saw he’d been neglected. His fur was so matted it had to be shaved. His skin was infected, he was passing blood, and he walked with a limp. A visit to the vet revealed he was actually six years old, not one and his injuries were far more serious than anyone had been told.

With love, patience, and proper care, Bear began to heal. He received grooming, treatment for his skin infection, and lots of cuddles. But the limp never went away. In fact, it’s now worse, and Bear needs an urgent X-ray to assess a suspected broken leg and likely surgery to repair it.

We later learned the heartbreaking reason why: Bear had fallen from a two story window in his previous home. That fall likely caused internal injuries and ongoing pain that he’s quietly carried with him all this time.

The cost of the X-ray alone is £760. The surgery will be in the thousands. Unfortunately, the insurance company won’t pre-authorise the procedure, meaning the full cost has to be paid upfront – and not many people have a spare £8000 lying around.

Bear finally has a family who adores him, kids who play with him, a warm bed, and people who truly care. Telling them they might have to put him down over something that can be fixed is absolutely heartbreaking.
