Help Save Barneys Life

Hi, my name is Kelly and my kitten is Barney. He’s just 6 months old and sadly he’s contracted FIP. (feline infectious peritonitis). Previously, cats diagnosed with FIP sadly had no option but to be PTS as this disease is fatal; however recently there was a treatment that can cure cats!

EXPLANATION OF FIP:

Here is a little explanation of FIP and the treatment.

FIP occurs when a common feline coronavirus is mutated within the cats body and becomes feline infectious peritonitis, causing widespread inflammation, fever, inappetence, and other issues. It can affect any organ or body system, and presents differently in every cat.

It's especially difficult to definitively diagnose because it can vary so widely, but there are some common blood markers we look for in most every case that can help determine diagnosis.

FIP has always been considered a fatal disease up until a couple of years ago when Dr Niels Pedersen discovered that the nucleoside GS441524, an antiviral drug that's in the spotlight right now with COVID, actually stops the replication of the mutated virus so that the cats immune system can mount a response and clear it from the body.

The treatment is 84 days of once per day injections, assuming no complications arise. This can be extended in difficult or resistant cases. It is somewhere around 90% effective in most cases, even with FeLV and FIV positive kitties!

Unfortunately, this treatment is not covered by insurance and can be very costly. Therefore I am asking for help; as little or as much as you can spare to help with this treatment. I can not give up on my little boy, he’s bought me so much love and joy in such a short time and I can only hope I get to watch him grow
