Help Save Bagel's Eyes!

Bagel is crying out for help. She needs surgery to correct a painful eye condition called entropion. This condition causes her eyelashes to turn inward, constantly rubbing against her eyes. This is not only painful for Bagel, but the irritation leads to excessive tearing, making it look like she's continuously crying. It can only be corrected through surgery, which, unfortunately, Bagel's owner cannot afford. If not treated soon, this could result in ulcers and even blindness.

I've organized this fundraiser on behalf of Bagel and Bagel's owner, Lisa. Lisa is a low-income senior citizen, whom I met several months ago, when she was seeking assistance with her animals. During a routine wellness visit at at our local humane society, we learned that Bagel's chronically weepy eyes were not the result of simple allergies but of double entropion. Bagel's condition has continued to worsen since then, making the surgery urgent. The cost of having this surgery done locally is out of reach, so yesterday we travelled 5 hours round-trip from Birmingham, AL to the Tuskegee Veterinary School for a pre-surgical consultation, paid for by a generous donor. We learned that the clinic would be able to do the desperately needed corrective surgery and associated treatment for 1/3 of what Lisa had been quoted locally. However, Lisa's household qualifies for government assistance, so this amount is still completely outside of her ability to pay. We want to get Bagel the necessary surgery within a month to alleviate her pain and prevent any further complications, but we must raise the funds to cover the costs of treatment.
