Help Save Baby Oscar from our failed systems

Donation protected
Our beautiful baby boy, Oscar, is just 3 months old. In this short time, he has endured more suffering than many face in a lifetime. We are devastated watching him cry in pain, inconsolable for hours on end, and we are now pleading for help to get him the specialist care he so desperately needs.

A Difficult Start
Oscar’s journey began with complications long before he was born. My waters broke at just 25 weeks, but an infection was missed, a mistake that meant Oscar entered the world already poorly.
When it was time to deliver, things only became more chaotic. I endured 6 days of labour and 3 failed inductions before being rushed for an emergency C-section. I was even sent home halfway through an induction, against UHD guidelines, because the hospitals couldn’t agree: Winchester disagreed with Bournemouth, Portsmouth disagreed with Winchester.

In theatre, the spinal anaesthetic didn’t work, and I felt everything as the surgery began. I clung on long enough to hear Oscar’s first cry before being put under a general anaesthetic. Babies can suffer from a traumatic delivery.

From the very beginning, Oscar was let down by a system that should have protected him.

What Oscar Has Been Through
Since birth, Oscar has endured relentless suffering that no baby should go through

• Feeding struggles: From the start, he couldn’t feed properly. Over 6 weeks, I went to the GP 9 times, A&E twice, had an ambulance call-out, and saw paediatrics 5 times, only to be told “it’s normal.” It wasn’t. He goes sometimes 24hrs without feeding.

• Tube feeding: Eventually, his pain became so severe that he needed to be tube-fed for over a week. 4mls through the NG tube caused him such discomfort, he would scream in pain.

• Starved for 24 hours: At one point, his stomach was emptied via a tube and he was left without food for 24 hours because two specialists couldn’t agree on what to do next.

• Failed MRIs: Twice, MRIs were attempted but failed because Oscar resisted sedation. A tiny baby unable to sleep or settle is not normal, and doctors have since given up on further scans.

• UTI neglected: He waited over a month for treatment for a urinary tract infection, clear neglect that left him in pain unnecessarily.

• Allergies dismissed: I had to fight hard to get his allergies taken seriously. Without constant advocacy, nothing would have been done.

• Blood concerns ignored: His platelets are dangerously elevated at 850 (they only act when they reach 1000), he is anaemic (dismissed as “normal for babies”), and he carries the haemoglobin D gene, but despite all of these combined red flags, we are repeatedly told not to worry.

Every medication has been tried. Every avenue exhausted. And still, Oscar cries in agony day and night, his little body desperately trying to tell us something isn’t right. Even the doctors admit now that his level of inconsolable crying is not normal — but no one is acting.

The System is Failing Him
We have been dismissed, overlooked, and left fighting for the most basic care. I was told “babies cry” while Oscar screamed for 10 hours straight. I was told “wait and see” while his blood tests, feeding struggles, and pain told another story.

And it isn’t just us. In hospital, we met other parents living the same nightmare, babies suffering, families begging to be heard, and a broken system that is stretched to breaking point.

Oscar’s pregnancy, birth, and care have all been marred by negligence, mistakes, and delays. He has been failed again and again.

Why We Need Your Help
After seeking private advice, we were told the truth: a single consultation won’t solve this. Oscar needs a holistic, multi-specialist approach.

The Portland Hospital in London (where advised by a private specialist to attend) can offer exactly that, a team of gastroenterologists, neurologists, geneticists, and other experts working together under one roof to finally uncover what is wrong with Oscar and give him the treatment he so desperately needs.

This is his best chance. But it comes at a huge cost that we simply cannot meet alone.

How Your Support Will Help

Every donation will go directly towards:

• Specialist consultations at the Portland Hospital
• Urgent diagnostic tests and scans

• Potential treatments and interventions

• Travel and accommodation for hospital visits

Please Stand With Us
Oscar is just a baby. He shouldn’t be in constant pain. He shouldn’t have to suffer because of missed infections, delayed treatments, and medical disagreements.

If you can donate, no matter how small, you will be helping us get closer to giving Oscar the care he urgently needs. If you cannot donate, please share his story — awareness matters, and together we can make a difference.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with us and helping us fight for our little warrior.
