Help Infant Baby Olivia Rose get Lifesaving Heart Surgery

On April 15th with Joe by her side, Jodi gave birth to their beautiful baby girl (our Granddaughter and Great-Granddaughter) Olivia Rose. She had a rough start in life and because of serious complications had to be delivered by Emergency Cesarean. On April 17th, everything seemed fine so she, Mom and Dad went home to join her big Brother Dax (age 23 month)

A short 7 days later, Olivia started to have trouble breathing. What every parent fears soon became a reality right before their eyes. Her Dad frantically began beeping the car horn and Mom was screaming for help to get the attention of a nearby Police Car. The  Officer immediately realized they were in distress, but in a fleeting moment little Olivia was turning blue and had stopped breathing all together. She was in full cardiac arrest. Dad handed the baby to the Officer who quickly and without hesitation began infant CPR. A Corrections officer who was nearby  aw what was happening and came to assist.  He retrieved the AED out of the Officers car for her to access Olivia’s condition.  After a few moments (which must have seemed like a lifetime) Olivia took a tiny breath…and then another…and then a big one, then she started to cry.  The best sound a Mother, Father and Police Officer could hope for.  The Officer singlehandedly brought Olivia back to life.  She then radioed in for help but knew she would not have time to wait for an ambulance, so she drove Mom and Olivia to Allegheny Health Network where there was a skilled staff waiting to help her.

After getting Olivia slightly stabilized at AHN, she was then transported by ambulance to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh where they quickly began running a barrage of tests to determine exactly what was wrong with her.  The initial report was that Olivia’s heart was enlarged  but after calling in a team of Pediatric Cardiovascular Specialists, it has been determined that Olivia needs to have Heart Surgery, and it is very extensive.

Olivia is very weak, being slightly over 5 pounds.  She has developed a lung infection from being intubated and is on strong antibiotics. The Doctors have run so many tests on her but need to have her completely unattached from all the equipment to do a much-needed MRI. Olivia is having heart surgery done within the next few days and will need a second surgery shortly after that.

Mom, Dad, and baby girl have a long road ahead of them and possibly more surgeries.  There will no doubt be huge medical expenses which will surely put a strain on their lives.

If you feel it in your heart and want to help with a small donation it would really help this beautiful young family through this difficult time.  Any donation would be greatly appreciated. All funds raised will help cover Olivia’s medical and family expenses. Please continue to pray for Olivia’s recovery and for her parents to be strong for her.
