On Monday, June 1st, I got a call that changed everything. My mom had fallen and needed help. We arrived just as the ambulance did, and it was immediately clear she needed to be taken to the hospital.

At the ER, things became even more serious. She was slurring her speech, confused, and after several tests, we learned she had suffered multiple strokes. During imaging, doctors also discovered a one-inch tumor in her lung.

We don’t have all the answers yet, but we do know she has a long road to recovery ahead. She won’t be able to return to living on her own, and heartbreakingly, she can no longer care for her seven dogs.

Some of them are in rough shape. As her health declined, she struggled to care for herself and for them. A few were already on the brink, and we are literally saving several from the euthanasia table by stepping in now.

We’ve arranged for transport and temporary boarding, but there are expenses involved including gas, supplies, and care. We’re doing everything we can to find them safe, loving homes.

My mom has spent her life rescuing animals and helping others, often when she had little to give. Now it’s our turn to be there for her and for the animals she fought so hard to protect.
