Kalua's home was founded 8 years ago. For 8 years the shelter has helped destitute cats and dogs. Animals rescued from the streets of Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Now all the good work could end as the shelter is due to close in August if funds cannot be raised.
Over 100 animals will have nowhere to go.
The shelter's founder explains:
Our animal shelter, Kaluas Homes, was founded on November 10, 2017. For over 8.5 years, we have been rescuing, treating, and protecting abandoned and injured animals.
So far, we have helped 20,000+ animals—including dogs, cats, horses, mongooses, rabbits, foxes, birds and more.
Currently, we are caring for:
135 dogs
70 cats
These animals fully depend on us. If we shut down, they have nowhere else to go.
We Are Facing Closure
Our current shelter agreement has ended, and we are already on a 6-month extension—which is about to expire.
This means our shelter may shut down very soon.
Our monthly expenses are:
600,000 – 800,000 BDT (≈ $5,500 – $7,500 USD)
This covers food, medical care, and daily survival for all animals.
Immediate Construction Need
We have selected a new 23 katha land for a 10-year lease. But we must start construction at least 2 months in advance.
Total urgent need:
$17,000 – $18,000 USD (≈ 2.0 – 2.1 million BDT)
Breakdown:
Boundary wall:
$5,000 (≈ 550,000 BDT)
Cat shelter + office + director’s room:
$7,500 (≈ 825,000 BDT)
Dog shelter (100+ capacity):
$5,500 (≈ 600,000 BDT)
Utilities (gas, water, electricity):
$2,000+ (≈ 220,000 BDT)
Without this, we cannot continue operating.
This is not just a shelter.
It is the last hope for hundreds of lives.
If we fail—
These animals will return to the streets
Many may not survive
We don’t want to give up.
But we cannot do this alone.
